My Teaching Philosophy:
As a teacher, I want my students to excel in their areas of artistic
emphasis in order to contribute to
society as artists, designers, teachers, and most importantly as inspired,
creative, inquisitive, life-long-learners.
I encourage my students to creatively explore traditional and non-traditional
methods of art and design to communicate their artistic expression. I prepare
students to analyze, research, and organize information to creatively solve
complex communication problems and hone their artistic strengths. I draw from
my own graphic design professional experience to create challenging
assignments and inspire my students to approach their art with keen problem
solving skills.

The International Baccalaureate Visual Arts
Curriculum:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Visual Arts
Curriculum, which I teach, embraces the examination of
sociocultural, critical, and experimental components
of art history and art in the studio setting.
Teaching the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts Curriculum allows me to:
- create stimulating educational opportunities and working environments
where my students can enjoy working and respond confidently to the personal,
socio-cultural and aesthetic experiences they encounter as they create their
artwork.
- assist my students in establishing a process for exploring, analyzing,
researching, making and evaluating appropriate forms of expression in the
visual arts.
- enable my students to explore the
personal, local
and cultural influences that inform their work, and to
acquire and develop the artistic skills needed for the
creation of individual interpretations of their
explorations.
- actively encourage my students to take
responsibility for the direction of their learning and
artistic production.
- allow my students to individually
and
collaboratively engage in the artistic experiences and
production that will inform them and their knowledge
of others.

The projects shown here illustrate solutions to both
teacher and student directed problems using a variety
of approaches, all of which I am comfortable teaching,
including: drawing, painting, sculpture,
print making, ceramics, mixed media and digital imagery.
